The Third Generation computers

TECH NEWS:

Although the transistor is in many ways surpass the vacuum tube, transistor, however generate considerable pans, which can potentially damage the internal parts of the computer. Quartz stone eliminates this problem, jack kilby, an engineer at texas instruments, developing integrated circuit (IC) in 1958. IC combines three electronic components in a tiny silicon disc made of quartz sand. On scientists then managed to place more components into a single chip called a semiconductor.
Progress of computer generation to the other three is the use of the operating system that allows the engine to run a variety of different programs simultaneously with a major program to monitor and coordinate computer memory.
Third-generation computers having characteristics include:

1. a Component used is IC that consists of hundreds or thousands of transistors

2. computer memory Capacity is much bigger

3. The process of operations more more more appropriate and osphronemidae

4. Physical size is much smaller and thus more efficient in the use of electricity

5. Use magnetic random access nature of disk

6. Can do multi procesing in the multi programming

7. Instrument input-output using visual display terminal

8. Can perform data communication from one computer to another.

That includes three generations of computers are UNIVAC1109, UNIVAC9000,BURROUGHS5700, BURROUGHS6700, BURROUGHS7700, PDP8 and PDP11.
